The Batu Hijau mine is an open pit copper-gold mine operated by Newmont Mining Corporations subsidiary company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara. The mine is located 1,530 kilometres east of the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Sumbawa, in southern Taliwang Regency, an island in West Nusa Tenggara. The mine is the result of a ten-year exploration and construction program based on a 1999 discovery of the porphyry copper deposit. Production began in 2000.
Batu Hijau is an open-pit copper-gold mine located on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa in the province of West Nusa Tenggara. The mine is owned by PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara and is the second-largest copper and gold mine in Indonesia. The mine began production in 2000 and has since produced over 4 million tons of copper and 1.5 million ounces of gold. The mine is located in an area of approximately 15,000 hectares and is estimated to contain reserves of copper and gold of approximately 1.2 billion tons.
The mine is operated by PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara and is the largest copper and gold mine in Indonesia. The mine is located in a remote area of the island and is accessible by a single road. The mine has two main pits, the East and West Pit, which are connected by a road. The East Pit is the larger of the two and is approximately 1.2 kilometers in diameter. The West Pit is approximately 0.6 kilometers in diameter.
The Batu Hijau mine has a processing plant that uses a combination of flotation and gravity methods to process the ore. The ore is crushed and then sent to the concentrator where it is separated into copper and gold concentrates. The copper and gold concentrates are then sent to the smelter where they are further processed into copper and gold.
The mine is an important source of income for the local communities, providing employment opportunities, as well as royalties and taxes to the government. The mine also provides a significant amount of electricity to the island, which is used to power the local communities. The mine is also an important source of revenue for the government, contributing to the economic development of the region.
